Questions at the fitting

The things people ask us most often about the cork bed, the lasts and how buying from this catalogue actually works.

Do you sell these shoes yourselves?

No. We last them, photograph them and write them up. Every pair is bought through our retail partner, who takes the payment, holds the stock and handles delivery and anything that comes back.

Why does the price here not match the price at checkout?

The figure on our page was read when the page was built. Our retail partner sets the price and can move it at any hour. Treat what you see here as a guide and the checkout figure as the real one.

Will the cork footbed feel hard at first?

Yes, and it should. The bed is pressed with a deep heel cup and a raised contour under the arch, so it feels firmer and higher than a flat insole. It settles under weight across about a week of short wear and then holds the imprint of your own heel.

What is the difference between a clog and a mule on your shelves?

Both are backless. A clog has a closed toe box that covers the front of the foot; a mule is cut lower and lighter across the vamp. A slide is open at the toe as well and held by one or two straps over the instep.

Can I put a pair through the washing machine?

No, and it will end the shoe. Cork does not survive being soaked and a drum will lift the upper off the bed. Brush suede dry, wipe smooth and vegan uppers with a damp cloth, and let anything wet dry in open air away from a radiator.

Are the vegan uppers on the same footbed?

Yes. All 38 pairs sit on the same moulded cork bed with the same EVA outsole under it. The upper is the only thing that changes, so a vegan pair and a suede pair in the same last feel the same underfoot.

How do I choose a size?

Read the size chart on the listing at our retail partner. Our shapes run on nine lasts and they are not interchangeable: the shelf lasted for men sits wider across the tread, and the small sizes have a shallower bed contour. A buckle over the vamp takes up volume, never length.

A pair arrived and it is not right. Who do I talk to?

Go to our retail partner through the order in your account with them. We took no payment and we hold no stock, so there is nothing we can arrange from this end. Write to us about the shoes themselves any time.

Every pair on this site is sold through our retail partner, who sets the price and handles payment, delivery and anything that comes back.
