How this pair is put together

Black synthetic hide

The matte black upper is cut from distressed vegan material with contrast stitching along the edges. It wipes clean with a damp cloth and needs only to air dry in the shade.

Memory foam layer

Under the foot lining sits a layer of memory foam over the shaped cork base. It yields under the foot quickly while the cork underneath keeps the deep heel cup and arch contour intact.

Copper tone prong

An antique copper finish covers the metal hardware on the vamp strap. Several punch holes let you tighten or slacken the band over the instep to balance the backless design.

Broad rounded front

The wide potato shoe toe box leaves generous room for the toes to spread out naturally. Sturdy perimeter stitching binds the synthetic upper directly into the footbed rim.

What we cut and last

Black distressed synthetic material gives this backless mule its matte, lived-in finish. We built it on our cork footbed lined with a layer of memory foam, shaping a rounded front that covers the toes completely. A copper tone buckle secures the instep strap so the shoe stays seated on the foot while walking.

Caring for this upper

  • Vegan: Wipe with a damp cloth, the surface shrugs off splashes.
  • Give the cork footbed a week of short wear so it takes the imprint of your heel.

Why a mule stays on the foot

A backless mule leaves the counter off entirely.

How the moulded cork footbed takes shape

Our workshop builds every shoe on one moulded cork footbed across the catalogue.

Closed toe or open toe across the catalogue

Every shoe we build begins with the same moulded cork footbed, but the first choice at the bench is the front of the upper.

Looking for a different foot?

Every pair on our shelf shares this footbed. Change the toe, the upper or the last and the rest stays the same.
