How this pair is put together

Brown suede shell

We select genuine brown suede for the vamp, leaving the nap soft and the edges clean. A brass-toned metal pin buckle secures the cross strap over the bridge of the foot. Brush dry dirt off with a stiff suede brush.

Moulded cork platform

The footbed uses natural cork shaped with a deep heel cup, arch rise, and a slight toe bar. As you walk, warmth and weight gradually shape the cork layer to the natural contours of your sole.

Lined suede footbed

A full layer of soft suede covers the cork base directly underfoot. It stays smooth against bare skin or knit socks, absorbing daily friction while the cork core underneath provides a sturdy, grounded foundation.

Treaded bottom layer

Beneath the cork sits a lightweight synthetic sole with shallow ridges across the full length. The grooved pattern grips flat floors, dry paving, and workshop tiles without adding excessive weight to the backless frame.

What we cut and last

Brown suede covers the rounded toe box on this backless mule. We build it on a cork footbed lined in matching suede, with a deep heel cup and a raised contour under the arch. The metal buckle across the bridge tightens or loosens the fit as the leather settles.

Caring for this upper

  • Suede: Brush dry with a bristle block, never wet the nap.
  • Give the cork footbed a week of short wear so it takes the imprint of your heel.

How the moulded cork footbed takes shape

Our workshop builds every shoe on one moulded cork footbed across the catalogue.

Caring for four uppers and cork

We build our footwear on a single moulded cork footbed across four distinct upper materials.

Closed toe or open toe across the catalogue

Every shoe we build begins with the same moulded cork footbed, but the first choice at the bench is the front of the upper.
